Brrrr…

Please be aware that you need to keep your temperature on all levels of your home to no lower than 60 degrees during the day and night. By lowering your temperature at night or when you are at work, you risk the chance that your pipes may freeze. Here are a few hints for preventing damage during cold weather and not incurring any extra costs to you:

  • Keep garage doors closed.
  • Don’t forget to heat the basement if there is a thermostat.
  • Change your air filters.
  • Make sure there is no furniture over the return vents.
  • Open kitchen and bathroom cabinet doors to allow warmer air to circulate around the plumbing.
  • When the weather is very cold outside, let the cold water drip from the faucet served by exposed pipes. Running water through the pipe – even at a trickle – helps prevent pipes from freezing.
  • Also, always be sure your outside exhaust heating vents are clear of snow.

Wishing you all a safe and healthy winter!
